We responded to our first Kidblog post today! The kids did a GREAT job logging on and following all of the steps to sign in. They wrote AMAZING posts about a picture of pigs.
You can read our blog posts
here. Ask your child to read you what they wrote!
And here's a super cute picture of Lily that I took the other day... I had to share it! :-)
Today in Writer's Workshop we read The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown. This book is beautifully written and discusses lots of different objects, but points out the most IMPORTANT things about those objects. We had a great discussion about important things after reading!
After our discussion, we broke into groups to brainstorm the most important things about Writer's Workshop. We came up with some really great ideas! We're going to use them to make our I-Can chart for Writer's Workshop full of important things!
This week we worked on finding a quiet place to write during Writer's Workshop. It was so fun to choose our own spot! The students did some wonderful writing in their special spots.
Thank you parents, you earned us a PIZZA PARTY today!! Our class had the most parents join PTA in all of first grade! Way to go!
We're really enjoying our guided math groups so far! Students learned a fun game called On/Off with Mrs. Fry and worked on subtraction journals with Mrs. Giera!
We have been working on our reading STAMINA during Just Read time. Building STAMINA means getting STRONGER. When we practice reading we're preparing to read those long chapter books that we want to read so badly! Today we read for a whole 15 minutes! Way to go kids!
This is our STAMINA poster to help us remember what STAMINA means!
Thank you for coming to Open House! It was wonderful to see all of the families and talk about our class!
If you missed Open House, please check your child's BEE Book for the information we discussed.
Here is the presentation we went over. (Click to download the PDF.)

Open House is Tuesday, August 23 at 6:30pm!!
Please bring your child and join me tomorrow night for Open House! We will be going over all of our routines and procedures for the year, as well as some important Title I information!
We are really mastering our routines and procedures! I was very impressed with our Morning Message this morning... though we didn't all get a turn to write (because we had a fire drill) we're really learning how to show our math thinking!
